Renfroe spent last season with the Rays, but he’ll be playing for a different AL East squad in 2021. The Red Sox announced on Monday that the team inked Renfroe to a one-year, $3.1M deal, and he could slot in as an everyday outfielder for them in the upcoming season.
His addition brings the Red Sox up to 40 players on the 40-man roster, which could signify the end of Jackie Bradley Jr.’s tenure with the team. He’s coming off one of his best offensive seasons in 2020, posting a wRC+ of 119, and there are reportedly plenty of teams vying for his services.
Renfroe struggled last season with the Rays, finishing with a career-low .156 batting average and 76 wRC+. That said, he remains dangerous against left-handed pitchers, slugging five home runs in just 41 at bats vs. southpaws in 2020.
