The Buffalo Sabres will be without primary defender Jake McCabe after he went down with a lower-body injury on Saturday. The Sabres are waiting on a confirmed diagnosis pending diagnostics but are prepared to be without McCabe for the remainder of the season.
The injury occurred when McCabe missed a check on Nico Hischier in the third period, causing his leg to buckle. McCabe has been used as a shutdown defenseman this season. 67.9% of McCabe’s starts come in the defensive zone. Despite the limited offensive opportunities, he has a 48.9% Corsi percentage and is a plus-two on the season. It’s expected that Matt Irwin will move onto the second-pairing with Brandon Montour in McCabe’s absence.
The Sabres’ next game comes against the New York Islanders on Monday night, although FanDuel Sportsbook does not yet have a line on the game.
