Jets Designate La’Mical Perine to Return from Injured Reserve
December 16Matt LaMarcaSportsGrid
Perine has missed the past three games with an ankle injury, but he returned to practice on Wednesday. That puts him on track to suit up for the Jets’ Week 15 contest vs. the Rams.
Perine was a fourth-round draft pick in 2020 out of Florida, and he had earned some additional playing time prior to getting hurt. He hasn’t been particularly effective, averaging just 3.7 yards per attempt, but it makes sense for the Jets to find out what they have in Perine given their current record. Overall, Perine averaged eight attempts and 2.2 targets over his past five games, resulting in an average of 7.12 FanDuel points per game.
Perine will compete for touches with Ty Johnson, Josh Adams, and the ageless Frank Gore, who split the workload essentially right down the middle last week vs. the Seahawks. Only Adam Gase knows why Gore continues to see so much work for a winless team, but it’s safe to say that he’s not going anywhere at this point.
That said, the Jets may not be in a position to run very often vs. the Rams. They’re currently listed as 17-point underdogs on FanDuel Sportsbook, and they may have to abandon the run game early if they’re playing from behind.
