News and Notes
The PGA TOUR announced on Monday that Jon Rahm has signed an equipment deal with Callaway Golf. His entire bag will now be loaded with their woods, irons, wedges, and golf balls. And also an Odyssey putter.
So, should we care? Well, no.
Every time a golfer changes equipment, golf fans erupt with skepticism. However, this is the No. 2 golfer in the world in both the OWGR and in Data Golf’s rankings. It’s hard to imagine this switch would change his outlook. And Rahm has obviously had time to test this equipment out during their short break. Most notably, Rahm mentioned he shot a course record 59 at Silverleaf with his new setup.
Overall, he’ll enter the TOC in great form as he leads the field in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green over the last three months. Additionally, Justin Ray of the 15th Club mentioned that over the last six years, the Kapalua winners had gained 29.4% of their strokes on the field from off-the-tee.
Can you guess who leads the field in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee over the last three months? Yep — Jon Rahm. Rahm’s odds might be a little short to consider betting, but he’s projecting as the No. 2 FanDuel value at DailyRoto.
