Latavius Murray won’t play Sunday after being placed on COVID protocol. Actually, every running back for the Saints and their running backs coach are on COVID-IR. Murray has been deemed a close contact and has yet to test positive, so he would be available to play next weekend at this point in time, unlike Alvin Kamara, who is only eligible to play Sunday, 1/10, and not Saturday, 1/9.
As for this week’s game versus the Panthers, Ty Montgomery is expected to be the lead ball carrier for the Saints. The game does mean something to New Orleans as they could grab the number one seed in the NFC with a win over the Panthers, a Seahawks win over the 49ers, and a Packers loss to the Bears. The Saints right now are 5.5 favorites over the Panthers as that spread has dropped a point over the last 24 hours with all of the bad news coming out of the Saints’ running back room. Drew Brees, however, could be a smart DFS play as the Saints may have to throw early and often to move the ball. Brees is going for $7,400.
