Lions Will Make Decision on Matthew Stafford Later in the Week

Interim head coach Darrell Bevell said that the Lions will take their time to make an official decision on Stafford this week. He was unable to practice on Wednesday, but Bevell added that Stafford doesn’t need to practice in order to suit up on Sunday. That said, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler is reporting that the Lions aren’t “overly optimistic” about his chances to play this week, and it doesn’t make sense for them to push him given their current record. The Lions also added quarterback Jordan Ta’amu to the practice squad, which is another indicator that they’re preparing to be without Stafford in Week 15.
If Stafford is unable to go, Chase Daniel will likely make his first start of the season. He’s appeared in relief of Stafford in two games in 2020, and his results have not been overly impressive. He’s posted an adjusted yards per attempt of just 5.3, and he’s thrown one touchdown and one interception on 19 attempts. Daniel would result in a massive downgrade for the Lions’ skill position players if he’s forced into the lineup.
The Lions are currently listed as 10.5-point underdogs on FanDuel Sportsbook for their Week 15 matchup vs. the Titans.
