A classic good news, bad news scenario for the New Orleans Saints this week. The good news came earlier today when head coach Sean Payton confirmed Drew Brees will start in Sunday’s potential Super Bowl preview against the Chiefs. The bad news is his most dangerous pass catcher will not play. According to Saints beat reporter Nick Underhill Thomas will miss this one with a nagging ankle injury.
Thomas has only played in seven of the Saints’ 13 games this season. After setting the single-season receptions record last year, the Saints wideout has been disappointing this year. Thomas has just 40 receptions for 438 yards, and his absence has been noticeable in the Saints attack.
Alvin Kamara, Emmanuel Sanders, and Tre’Quan Smith all get upticks in the passing game even though the Chiefs give up the third-fewest fantasy points to receivers and have a solid pass defense.
