The Columbus Blue Jackets quelled any rumors of Pierre-Luc Dubois’s unhappiness by re-signing the budding superstar to a two-year bridge deal Thursday afternoon.
Dubois filled the offensive void left by Artemi Panarin and Matt Duchene following their departure after the 2018-19 NHL season. Dubois paced the Blue Jackets with 49 points in the covid-interrupted season and led them to a Qualifying Round upset of the Toronto Maple Leafs — collecting 10 points in 10 post-season games.
Advanced metrics indicate that there’s reason to believe that Dubois improves in his fourth year in the league. Dubois posted a 52.4% relative Corsi rating, 53.6% relative scoring chance rating and 55.7% high-danger scoring chance rating — all indicators that Dubois and his linemates dictate the pace of play while on the ice. Factor in his 71.1% offensive zone starts, menacing powerplay metrics and another year of development under his belt, and there’s reason to believe that Dubois takes a big step forward in the 2020-21 NHL season.
The Blue Jackets will be happy to have their top-scorer and first-line center ready for when training camp kicks off on January 3, 2021.
