Artemi Panarin fell victim to Tom Wilson in New York’s 6-3 loss to the Washington Capitals on Monday. Wilson knocked down Panarin multiple times in a fight that involved him punching Pavel Buchnevich multiple times while he was down on the ice before Panarin intervened. The Capitals enforcer was fined $5000 for his actions against Buchnevich, but it was Panarin who suffered an upper-body injury in the melee for which Wilson was not disciplined.
Barring a scoring frenzy from Mika Zibanejad, Adam Fox, Ryan Strome, or Buchnevich, Panarin will finish the season as New York’s leading scorer. The former Blackhawk will finish with 58 points in just 42 games, while second-leading scorer Zibanejad has 48 points in 53 games. Rookie left-winger Alexis Lafreniere could be a sneaky play at FanDuel with a bigger role over the next few days, filling in for Panarin.
Jacob Trouba hasn’t played since April 20 with an upper-body injury and will be shut down for the rest of the year. Trouba’s 2021 campaign will end with two goals and 12 points in 38 games for his second season with the club.
New York will certainly be underdogs at FanDuel’s Sportsbook for their rematch with Washington on Wednesday and most likely in their two-game season concluding set with Boston.
