Reddit User Scoops NFL Free Agent Signing While Playing Call of Duty

Former Bears offensive lineman Rashaad Coward has reportedly agreed to a contract with the Steelers. Coward has started 15 games for the Bears over the past two seasons, but what makes this story interesting is how it was first reported. Instead of Adam Schefter or Ian Rapoport getting the initial report, that honor belonged to a random Reddit user named ProbationOfficer2035.
This user was playing the video game “Call of Duty” when he was randomly teamed up with Coward’s significant other. He heard through her microphone something about a “deal” and “Pittsburgh,” and he was able to put things together through some internet sleuthing. ProbationOfficer2035 describes himself as a Packers’ fan, so it seems especially ironic that this scoop involved their biggest rivals in the Bears.
This comes on the heels of a liquor store employing getting the scoop on one of the biggest NFL stories last year. She noticed some Kansas City team officials buying six bottles of champagne and pieced together that they had signed star quarterback Patrick Mahomes to an extension.
From a football perspective, the Coward signing is not expected to have much of an impact on the Steelers. He graded out as a below-average guard according to Pro Football Focus last season, and the Steelers are listed at +3200 to win Super Bowl LVI on FanDuel Sportsbook.
