Report: Dalvin Cook Will Miss Week 17 Matchup vs. Lions

According to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin, Cook had a family emergence come up on Tuesday that forced him to return home to Miami. She adds that Cook will be unavailable for the Vikings’ Week 17 matchup vs. the Lions.
Alexander Mattison would usually be the next man up at running back for the Vikings, but he’s currently dealing with a concussion. He was forced to miss last week’s game vs. the Saints, so it’s possible that he could also be inactive for the Vikings’ season finale. If that’s the case, Ameer Abdullah and Mike Boone would likely make up some sort of committee in the Vikings’ backfield.
The Vikings were officially eliminated from playoff contention after losing their past two games, so they have nothing to play for in Week 17. That said, the Lions are also dealing with a potential absence. Matthew Stafford’s status for Sunday is uncertain after picking up an ankle injury last week vs. the Buccaneers, so the Vikings are still listed as 6.5-point favorites on FanDuel Sportsbook.
