Meyer and the Jaguars have been flirting since the firing of previous head coach Doug Marrone, and it appears as though they are close to coming to an agreement. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports that there is a “growing sense in league circles” that Meyer will accept the Jaguars’ head coaching job.
Meyer has been out of football since leaving Ohio State after the 2019 Rose Bowl, and he has reportedly demanded a salary of $15M per year to come to Jacksonville. Florio also reports that Meyer would be expected to keep interim general manager Trent Baalke, but Meyer would be in control of the full day-to-day operations of the team.
His first big decision would involve what to do with the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft, but it seems like Trevor Lawrence is the obvious choice. Lawrence was dominant in three years at Clemson, racking up a 38-2 career record. His only two losses came against LSU and Alabama in the National Championship each of the past two seasons. Lawrence is currently listed as a massive -6000 favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick on FanDuel Sportsbook, and he’s -4000 to be drafted by the Jaguars.
