Edwards is a restricted free agent, but The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec reports that the Ravens might not be interested in letting him walk. He led the Ravens in carries this season and played well enough that Mark Ingram became a healthy scratch during the latter part of the year. Rookie J.K. Dobbins was more productive with his touches, but Edwards still averaged a stout 5.0 yards per carry in 2020-21.
If the Ravens intend to bring him back, they could place a second-round tender on him as a restricted free agent. That means that any team who tries to sign Edwards would ultimately have to compensate the Ravens with a second-round pick. That’s a price tag that would likely scare off most teams.
Edwards being back with the Ravens would be a negative for Dobbins, but he should still be expected to take on a larger role next season. The Ravens invested a premium draft pick him, so he should be able to cruise past his 152 touches from last season as long as he stays healthy.
The Ravens were a major disappointment last year, but they are still among the favorites to win Super Bowl LVI at +1400 on FanDuel Sportsbook.
