Report: Will be Challenging for Jared Goff to Play Saturday vs. Seahawks
January 4Matt LaMarcaSportsGrid
Goff was unable to suit up in the Rams’ regular-season finale vs. the Cardinals on Sunday, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that it will be “challenging” for him to suit up in the Wild Card round. They will be facing the Seahawks for the third time this season on Saturday, and there’s no guarantee that Goff will be far enough removed from thumb surgery to grip the football properly. He was able to do some throwing on Sunday, but Seattle’s weather conditions will make that much more challenging than it was in Los Angeles.
If Goff cannot suit up, John Wolford will likely draw his second consecutive start at quarterback. Wolford was mediocre as a passer last week, finishing with an average of just 4.89 adjusted yards per attempt and racking up zero touchdowns and one interception. However, he provided some value with his legs, rushing six times for 56 yards.
Whoever is at quarterback will face a stiff test from the Seahawks, who have recently improved the defensive side of the ball. They’ve allowed 23 points or fewer in eight straight games, and they’ve allowed an average of just 16.0 points per game over that time frame. The Seahawks are currently listed as 4.5-point favorites vs. the Rams on FanDuel Sportsbook.
