Ronald Jones Suffers Possible Fractured Pinky vs. Vikings
Head coach Bruce Arians stated that Jones “may” have fractured his pinky during the Buccaneers’ Week 14 win over the Vikings. He was able to play through the injury and put together a solid fantasy performance, finishing with 80 rushing yards and a touchdown, but the severity of the injury is currently unknown. It’s possible he may need to get a pin placed in it, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he’ll be out of the lineup in Week 15 vs. the Falcons.
Jones stands out as an excellent fantasy option if he can suit up in that contest. He has taken over as the clear lead back in Tampa Bay, and the Buccaneers even decided to make Leonard Fournette a healthy scratch last week. Jones handled 19 of the 25 backfield opportunities for the Bucs in that contest, with LeSean McCoy and Ke’Shawn Vaughn combining for the other six.
If Jones is forced to miss any time, expect Fournette to be back in the active lineup and likely handle the majority of the carries. Neither McCoy nor Vaughn profile as a lead back at this point in their careers, and Fournette is still capable of handling those responsibilities.
Whoever is starting a running back will face a tougher matchup than expected vs. the Falcons. They are known as a poor defensive team, but they actually rank sixth in Football Outsiders’ rush defense DVOA this season. The Bucs have yet to play the Falcons in 2020, so they will face them twice over the season’s final three weeks.
