Shohei Ohtani’s Start In Jeopardy After Being Hit By Pitch

Shohei Ohtani soaked a pitch in the first inning against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, putting his start on Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays in jeopardy. Los Angeles Angels skipper Joe Maddon noted that it’s too early to tell whether Ohtani’s start will be skipped, but more will be known in the morning.
Ohtani’s season has gone to plan, with him working full-time in the designated hitter role and holding down a spot in the starting rotation, as well. Ohtani is dealing on the bump, striking out 23 through 13.2 innings pitched, allowing only six hits, although batters have collected 13 walks off Ohtani. His 3.29 earned run average leads Angels pitchers.
Maddon did not lay out his Plan B in case Ohtani can’t go. Expecting a bullpen day instead of Ohtani would be playing it safe.
FanDuel Sportsbook still has the Angles listed as -118 favorites, but that will change if the Angels are forced to change their starting pitcher.
