Trail Blazers will be without CJ McCollum for at least four weeks
The news went from bad to worse for the Portland Trail Blazers. Amid a career-year, CJ McCollum will miss at least the next four weeks with a fractured left foot, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania. McCollum suffered the injury in the first half of the Blazers game with Atlanta on Saturday. The Blazers swingman was having a fantastic year leading the team in scoring much of the year before being passed by Damian Lillard, who will now shoulder the bulk of the offensive load. McCollum’s 26.7 points per game were ninth-best in the NBA while he led the league with 4.8 three-pointers a night.
Gary Trent Jr. is the player to nab here as he should get the most significant jump in playing time. Trent can be found in just under 80 percent of leagues but expect that number to shrink rapidly as the news gets out. Derrick Jones Jr., Rodney Hood, and Anfernee Simons will also fight it out for some of McCollum’s minutes. Regulars like Carmelo Anthony, who’s available in 60 percent of leagues, and Robert Covington will also get a boost.
