Update: Michael Brantley to Blue Jays Not Finalized
January 20Matt LaMarcaSportsGrid
Brantley to the Blue Jays was first reported by Hazel Mae and confirmed by the Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, but those reports were apparently premature. The Blue Jays and Springer remain in discussions, but no deal has been finalized at this point.
The Blue Jays made headlines yesterday by signing George Springer, so adding Brantley would give them one of the most potent offenses in the league. They already ranked eighth in runs per game last season, even though Lourdes Gurriel, Cavan Biggio, and Vlad Guerrero Jr. are all still young. There’s plenty of reasons to believe this offense will be even better next season, even if they cannot secure Brantley.
The pitching staff remains a concern, but this offense should give the Blue Jays a great chance to make the postseason. The Blue Jays are currently listed at +1000 to win the American League and +3000 to win the World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
