Week 12 NFL Injury News and Updates
Week 12 NFL Injury News and Updates
Well, here is to hoping that everyone had a great Thanksgiving. It is my favorite holiday with food, family, friends, and of course football. That being said, this weekend looks like it’s going to be a mess. The game between the Steelers and Ravens was supposed to be played Thanksgiving night but moved to Sunday at 1:15 due to several positive COVID tests by the Ravens.
Now, that game has been moved to Tuesday night after several more positive tests, including one to Lamar Jackson. What a mess. At this point, we have no idea who may play or won’t play for the Ravens in this game. Make sure you have other options to go Sunday and/or Monday. One side note here, this means the game Thursday between the Ravens and Cowboys will also have to be postponed as the NFL won’t have the Ravens play twice in two days.
Kyler Murray is the question mark this week. Murray has a shoulder injury, and it is affecting how he throws regardless of whether or not the Cardinals admit it. Murray couldn’t complete a possible deep game-winning touchdown pass last week because he couldn’t get enough zip on the ball. Still, if Murray starts for Arizona on Sunday, I can’t see you not starting him.
Todd Gurley hasn’t practiced this week and seems unlikely to play Sunday. This shouldn’t be a big loss as he has been fairly unproductive of late outside of some touchdown deodorant. Brian Hill will be a good pickup if you need a running back this week. Julio Jones couldn’t practice Friday due to a hamstring injury and will also drive fantasy owners crazy this weekend. Yeah, I’m starting him if he plays, but why do I have a feeling he will have another less than fruitful outing. Calvin Ridley has a mid-foot sprain and should play but will also be limited. Hayden Hurst is also on the injury report and could be limited this week. This may not be a great week for the Atlanta offense.
Okay, COVID central here. Lamar Jackson, Mark Ingram, and J.K. Dobbins are all on COVID IR. It’s anyone’s guess whether or not they will play Tuesday. I’m not taking any chances as it’s a rough matchup anyway. I’ll find other players. Gus Edwards would start at running back if Ingram and Dobbins can’t go, Robert Griffin III if Jackson is out. Edwards could be a start as any starting RB with a pulse has value. As for RGIII, unless playing in a league in which you start two quarterbacks, I would assume you can do better. Mark Andrews is also dealing with a thigh injury, but one would think the extra two days of rest now will get him healthy, and he plays in this game.
John Brown will miss this game with an ankle injury which should lead to more targets for both Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley, who both should be started.
Christian McCaffrey is listed as questionable, but coach Matt Rhule stated Friday that he would be surprised if CMC can play. This looks like yet another week to start Mike Davis. Teddy Bridgewater is healthy, though, and should be started if you normally would.
All of America wanted to know who would start at quarterback for the Bears this week. Well, it will be Mitchell Trubisky, yippee. Nick Foles will miss this game with a hip injury, but that shouldn’t matter as you don’t want to start either one of them this week, and probably not any other week either.
The loss of Joe Burrow for the season with several injuries to his knee is just brutal for the Bengals, their fans, and fantasy players. Not only can you not use Burrow, but it also makes Tyler Boyd, Tee Higgins, and A.J. Green close to useless as well. I mean, does anyone believe Brandon Allen is going to be throwing the football with accuracy and effectiveness up and down the field all game Sunday? Oh, and Giovani Bernard has a concussion and is questionable at best to play. The Bengals are close to a disaster on offense.
Jerry Jeudy has missed practice time with ankle and Achilles injuries and may miss the game Sunday. It doesn’t matter either way as you probably want to find someone else in a tough matchup versus New Orleans.
Green Bay Packers
This is all about the receivers for Green Bay. Davante Adams is still dealing with an ankle injury but should play Sunday. Allen Lazard is playing, but that core muscle injury is keeping him limited as he still isn’t close to 100%. Marquez Valdes-Scantling has an Achilles injury and may be the most likely to miss this game out of this trio. Robert Tonyan also has an ankle injury but is also expected to play. The favorite target for Aaron Rodgers this week may just be whichever one of this quartet can stay the healthiest or maybe he just throws to Adams each and every down that he is on the field.
Phillip Rivers missed practice on Wednesday with a toe injury but is fully expected to practice Friday and play Sunday.
The Jags, shocking, I know, have some issues at quarterback. Gardner Minshew is unlikely to play with his thumb injury. Jake Luton won’t start because of ineffectiveness, so we welcome Mike Glennon. Yeah, it probably doesn’t matter that D.J. Chark will miss the game with a rib injury.
Kansas City Chiefs
Sammy Watkins is expected to play this week after recovering from his calf and hamstring injuries. Watkins is not an automatic start, however, and just muddies the wide receiver picture for Mecole Hardman and DeMarcus Robinson. Tyreek Hill is the only receiver I trust here.
Los Angeles Chargers
Kalen Ballage is dealing with an ankle injury that has him questionable to play this week, but that may not matter if Austin Ekeler can return from his hamstring tear. I might want to sit Ekeler on my fantasy team in his first game back from injury as maybe they ease him into action, but at running back, you also may have no choice but to start him.
Los Angeles Rams
Tyler Higbee may miss the game with an elbow injury, and if he does, this could make Gerald Everett a top 10 tight end this week.
Tua Tagovailoa has a thumb injury that could keep him from playing Sunday. The truth is that’s probably a good thing as you really can’t start him in traditional leagues anyway. Ryan Fitzpatrick, though could make for a cheap low-end play versus the Jets in DFS contests. Salvon Ahmed won’t play, however, due to a shoulder injury. This leaves the running game in the hands of Matt Breida and possibly Myles Gaskin if he returns from injured reserve.
Adam Thielen is on COVID IR and may not play Sunday. If he plays you start him, that simple.
New Orleans Saints
Taysom Hill should once again be a low-end QB1 this week. Hill has a high floor because of his running ability, and his throwing of mid-to-deep passes was better than expected last week. Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas have both been listed as limited in practice with ankle injuries, but both are going to start, and both will start for your fantasy team.
New York Jets
Sam Darnold will start for the Jets. Yeah, who cares. This is just a countdown for the last of his starts with the Jets. Unless you just don’t have any other choices, it’s hard to see a Jet you’re starting here, even Frank Gore.
Zach Ertz is expected to play Monday night. Once again, I don’t like to start guys right away in their first game returning from a long injury absence. Then again, it’s a tight end, not like you might have a great one in his place, and this game should be high scoring. Ertz starts.
San Francisco 49ers
Raheem Mostert may return from injured reserve to play in this game. It’s not the greatest matchup, though, as they are playing what might be the best defense in the NFC in the Rams. Tevin Coleman is also back at practice, but that shouldn’t matter. Deebo Samuel is limited but can’t see how you’re starting him here. Jordan Reed has an illness but will play. San Francisco is still an injury disaster this season.
The Sehawks may finally get Carson back from his foot injury, and that’s important because it has started to look like the loss of Carson and the run game had finally started to take its toll on Russell Willson and the passing game. All may be right for Seattle come Monday.
A.J. Brown missed practice Thursday with a knee injury, but that was likely more of a maintenance day for the receiver. Brown should play Sunday.
