The title of light heavyweight champion and the reputation of best pound-for-pound fighter are on the line when Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev and Andre "S.O.G." Ward face off in boxing's premiere matchup on Nov. 1. The fight will premiere from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on HBO pay-per-view at 9 p.m. ET.
The matchup is touted as one for the ages because of the juxtaposition between the two boxers' fighting styles. Kovalev is one of the most formidable, hard-hitting fighters in the world. The Russian fighter overpowers his opponents by relentlessly pounding them - a strategy that's catapulted him to three light heavyweight titles.
Here's an HBO compilation of some of Kovalev's most devastating blows.
While he delivers massive blows, the term "pound-for-pound" fighter was somewhat new to Kovalev.
"When I was growing up in Russia I did not hear these words pound for pound," Kovalev said in an HBO blog. "Once I learned what this was I knew this was important. I am honored that people think I am the fighter that could get this title. It's important for me, for my career."
Meanwhile, Andre Ward is a master strategist in the ring, wearing down his opponents with precise blows. What Ward lacks in power he'll make up for by outthinking his opponents in the ring. And it doesn't hurt that his left hook is said to be one of the most deadly weapons in the boxing world.

"The reality of it is, every fight is a must-win for me," Ward said in an HBO blog. "I prepare for each fight as if I'm facing the most difficult opponent of my career. That's always been my approach, and I think you're playing with fire if you don't adopt that mentality in this sport."
While each have admitted this is the biggest and most challenging fight of their careers, Kovalev and Ward have also said they have massive respect for each other as fighters.
Wether you're a boxing junkie or you've only ever watched the Rocky series (and yes I know you're thinking about the final fight in Rocky IV after reading this post), this fight should be on your radar.
