It looks like one of the more notable NHL free agents has found a new home. Pierre LeBrun is reporting that Anthony Duclair will be signing with the Florida Panthers.
Duclair has had a bumpy start to his career, Florida will be his sixth team in seven years, but he’ll look to build off an impressive 2019-20 campaign. Duclair set a career high with 23 goals, with five of those coming on the man-advantage, both of which lead the Ottawa Senators. What’s most impressive about Duclair’s accomplishments is that the bump in productivity came despite decreased offensive zone starts.
Possession metrics notwithstanding, Duclair has some other advanced metrics working in his favor. He finished the season with a 50.7% goals for percentage and 50.5% expected goals for percentage. So not only did he create more goals than were allowed, but his production remains on a sustainable trajectory.
Duclair slots in naturally on the left side of the second line, joining other new-comers Alex Wennberg and Patric Hornqvist. If these three can find some chemistry early, Florida is going to be a force in the newly formed Central Division. Scoring depth is huge, and the Panthers gave themselves a boost in that regard.
Florida is currently +3600 on the Stanley Cup futures board over at FanDuel Sportsbook. Keep an eye on player props ahead of the expected season start on January 13, 2021.
