D-Backs Announcers Mock Selfie-Crazed Sorority Sisters, Miss The Bigger Picture
If I've said it once I've said it 4,000 times -- when you mix smartphones, churros and hot dogs in the same small area, you're going to get distasteful behavior. It happened on Tuesday at Chase Field during the Rockies-Diamondbacks game, when members of Arizona State's Alphia Chi Omega sorority -- only slightly aware that a baseball game was being played -- went crazy with the selfies for nearly an entire inning.
What about this, Bud Norris? Is this in line with proper etiquette for "America's game"? WHAT ABOUT THIS?
D-Backs broadcasters Bob Brenly and Steve Berthiaume didn't think so.
BERTHIAUME: "Every one one of those girls is locked in to their phones. Parenting in the 2000s, folks."
BRENLY: "That's the best one of the 300 pictures I've taken of myself today!"

Of course Brenly and Berthiaume were totally missing the big picture.
1. Before launching into their Statler and Waldorf act, the two broadcasters had just finished reading ad copy for a D-Backs "Send In Your Game Photo" fan contest. This makes them ridiculous hypocrites.
2. If it weren't for self-absorbed sororities and people simply getting out of the heat, the D-Backs would have zero attendance during late-season games vs. other non-contenders.
3. Don't mock these girls for taking selfies -- at least SOMEone was having fun at this useless game. No, instead mock them for the sorority mentality in general. Mock them for being 90 percent blond and 99 percent Caucasian. Mock them for saying things like "Oh God, Amber, that's so gross." Mock them for being so obsessed with status and body image that not one of their group can be the slightest bit overweight or unattractive. Mock them for jean jackets and Daisy Dukes and Heidi braids ... it's 2015! GODDAMN IT. Mock them for crepe paper decorations and hosting marginally important charity events and obsessively on time for cheerleading practice and spring break in Cabo and watching The Bachelor and liking Ryan Gosling and agreeing with Kim Davis. I need a drink.
