WAGs are a select group of women who exclusively date professional athletes. Do with that information what you will. They like rich guys with shredded bodies. More power to ’em.
It was only a matter of time before The E! Network debuted their first sports-centric “housewife” show (for lack of a better term). These women embody all the traits that make for great — er, popular — reality television. They’re beautiful, vain, rich, competitive, fame-starved and utterly ridiculous. They are the partially developed Los Angeles-based pupae of their athlete-obsessed Kardashian gold-digging overlords, who pioneered the tactic of using a player’s talent and subsequent notoriety to stay in the headlines, propping up their own careers as “public personalities” in the process. In fact, just the other day Khloe Kardashian was spotted rocking an Adidas jacket — a not-so-subtle insinuation that her new boyfriend, Houston Rockets guard James Harden, would be making the jump from Nike for a whopping $200 million. (It’s probably not a coincidence that her sister’s husband, someone named “Kanye West,” had previously made the exact same jump.)
Say what you will about the talents these women possess, just don’t underestimate their roles as branding powerbrokers.
Looking to capitalize on the similarly compelling je ne sais quoi of some C-list iterations of the massive famous Kardashian trio, E! is rolling out the creatively titled “WAGs” on Tuesday, August 18, and we’ve got some exclusive sneak peeks. This show is poised to set the human race back 40-50 years. Here’s the roster thus far…
Sasha Gates: wife of San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates
Autumn Ajirotutu: wife of Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu
Barbie Blank: former WWE Diva and fianceé of retired professional hockey player Sheldon Souray
Ashley North: girlfriend of Washington free safety Dashon Goldson
Natalie Halcro: wife of free agent linebacker Shaun Phillips
Nicole Williams: wife of Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Larry English and web-anointed “Hottest WAG in the Game” (see slideshow at bottom of page)
…and here’s a few select snippets, courtesy of E!, that will be sure to make some grey matter drip out of your ear.
