Japanese Soccer Hero In Hot Water For Sharing Nude Photos Of Teammate With College Students During Boozy Night Out
Saki Kumagai, who scored the winning penalty kick for Japan in the World Cup final, is being disciplined by the Japan Football Association after some things she said (and some photos she showed) during a boozy post-game celebration were made public.
According to The Mainichi Daily News, the 20-year-old Kumagai was out celebrating Japan's World Cup win in Germany on Wednesday night, when one of the college students she was partying with (not as crazy as it sounds - Kumagai is only 20) began tweeting what she was saying.
In addition to criticizing coach Norio Sasaki and describing the clubhouse atmosphere as "hierarchical," Kumagai began flipping through the ol' photo library.
She is also said to have shown nude photos of teammate and forward Karina Maruyama taken on her mobile phone.
Kumagai, who apologized on her own Twitter page, has since been pulled from all scheduled television appearances.
While trash talking your coach and unintentionally starting a nude picture scandal during a night of drinking probably wouldn't go over too well in America, in a culture like Japan's, where respect and politeness is of the highest importance, it will be even less well-received. スキャンダル.*
