LA Weather Girl Wears Skimpy Cocktail Dress On Air, Is Made To Cover Up
Meteorologist Liberté Chan endured a
hailstorm of criticism chilly reception truckload of controversy on Saturday when she did the weather report for KTLA-5 Los Angeles in a skimpy black cocktail dress. During the broadcast, Chan was handed a sweater by someone off camera because the station was getting email complaints. Example:
"She looks like she just got home late from a cocktail party. Very inappropriate for a weather report."
So here's what happened: Chan showed up to work that day in a black and white dress that producers quickly discovered did not work well against the green screen, so she had to change. All that she had on hand was the black dress you see above, so she put it on and forged ahead with the weather report.
But the station soon became swamped with complaints, and responded by ... handing Chan a sweater, live on the air. She appeared genuinely surprised, but put it on.
So the video soon when viral, with some outlets taking the angle that Chan was censored by the station for wearing a skimpy dress. She claims that is hogwash -- she says a co-worker handed her the sweater as "a joke."
Yes, hilarious clothing humor. Could you just let me know if I can play golf on Sunday? That's really the only reason I'm here.
So half of the viewers were mad because of the revealing "cocktail dress", and the other half because the station was being sexist by apparently censoring an attractive woman. But the station has been falling over itself for two straight days trying to claim that it was all an innocent misunderstanding, and that the viewers were taking it all out of context.
Yes, that's what happens on TV. People are tuning in and out all the time -- things are routinely seen out of context. So next time just do the weather and stop trying to be The Groundlings.
