Ah, double entendres. They’re so useful in writing. They make it so we can say one word — such as hottest — and have it mean two different things, without wasting time spelling out what each of those things are. Hottest: Does that mean, they are attractive? Does that mean, they are winning a lot right now? In the case of Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza, we mean both. Get it?
You remember Hingis: She’s in the International Tennis Hall of Fame and won the doubles title at Wimbledon 17 years ago, but she came out of retirement in 2013 and is now teamed with the number one women’s doubles player in the world in Mirza. And Mirza, six years Hingis’ junior, is historic in her own right — she’s the first woman from India to be ranked number one in either singles or doubles.
Also, they’re both looking real good.
The duo took out Americans Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears 6-1, 6-2 on Friday to make the Wimbledon final. Check out photos of the two of them (via Instagram) to understand what we’re talking about to have a rooting interest for the championship on Saturday at 2 p.m. local time (9 a.m. ET):
