Note to 2020 Summer Olympics: replace synchronized swimming with synchronized stripping. If that happens, Ukraine’s Anna Voloshyna will be a gold medal favorite — judged by this Instagram video she posted on Saturday.
Voloshyna, who has never won an Olympic medal but got four bronzes at the World Championships, will be competing with duet partner Lolita Ananasova (both are 24) in about an hour in the women’s duet, where Russians Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina, hold a significant lead.
Ishchenko and Romashina tallied a near-perfect 98.0667 points with their mermaid-themed routine, a full two points ahead of their nearest competitors, Huang Xuechen and Sun Wenyan China.
But during practice on Saturday this happened, and so Voloshyna has taken a commanding lead in public opinion.
Team USA’s duet of Mariya Koroleva and Anita Alvarez, swimming to the theme “Fury,” finished the free routine preliminary with 86.4333 points and are in ninth place headed into Monday’s duet technical routine.
More Anna. You’re welcome.
