Do the New York Mets have Value in the NL East Futures Market?
The New York Mets could be a good bet to win the National League East. They are listed at+145 on the FanDuel Sportsbook to take the division this season and hold some value there. New York has a new owner, and they have some excellent new players, specifically Francisco Lindor. The odds are just good enough to make a bet and make a little cash.
Usually, when we see high-profile off-season moves, we will overreact to them in the betting markets. But with the Mets here, it seems like we’re potentially under-reacting, and the odds haven’t gone too crazy. Sure Lindor is just one guy, but it’s a massive move. It’s a huge bat to get there, given what they were getting at that position last year and how the offense struggled. If you look at that lineup now, one through seven or one through six, that’s an outstanding lineup, maybe one of the best lineups in the league. That definitely makes for an enticing year, considering how improved the offense should be.
We already know how good the rotation can be even though Noah Syndergaard will not be there right away. They have enough depth there with the additions of guys like Carlos Carrasco and re-signing Marcus Stroman where they can get by until Syndergaard comes back. Once he does, if he could be anywhere near where he was before the injury, this team has a lot of upside.
In a quick rudimentary ranking system based on past production to players currently on each team, we made the Mets actually ranked fifth in the NL and tops in the East. Further reasons why it seems the Mets are still being underrated with the additions of Lindor and Carrasco. It’s definitely a tough division with many competitive teams in the NL East, which does complicate things for sure, but +145 is a good number.
They should be a good team, both with their starting pitching and with their offense. So why not buy in and see if those big off-season moves can really pay dividends.
