MLB: NL Futures Outlook
Despite remaining relatively quiet in the free-agent market, the Los Angeles Dodgers are still the favorite to win the 2021 World Series. Too often, people get caught up in the flashy signings, whereas it’s the teams that actually stand pat that offer some value because they have fewer tweaks to make with their rosters. One team in that category is the Atlanta Braves.
FanDuel lists the Braves at +950 to win the World Series. Let’s not forget that they had the Dodgers on the ropes after jumping out to a 3-1 series lead. While Los Angeles managed to battle back from that deficit, Game 7 really could have gone either way for both teams as it was a Cody Bellinger solo home run that broke the 3-3 tie in the seventh inning of the game.
You can make the argument that the Braves’ top two pitchers are good enough to compete with any team in the league. It seems like every year they have a new blossoming starting pitcher, but their farm system also gives them enough pieces to make a trade if it can improve the team. Keep in mind that we’re likely to see more trades this season, with more games expected to be played. Most teams didn’t see the value in parting with prospects in a short season last year.
Just because you go all-in pre-flop like the Padres doesn’t mean it’s going to work necessarily when the cards are flipped over. We still have to see how this team gels together.
As for the Braves, they’ve been knocking on the door the past few years, and it shouldn’t be a surprise if 2021 is finally their breakthrough year.
