MLB DFS Picks: Jake Arrieta - Sucker Hitters Should Call Him Sire
As a reminder, the focus of the "Going All In" piece each week is finding the high priced DFS players that are worth your time. I'll give you the best "hand" of four players that make it worthwhile for you to push in your chips and give you a fifth player/river card that's cheap and helps use the high priced players (prices used from FantasyAces.com).
Jake Arrieta ($8,400) – Arrieta is the best pitcher on the board and it isn't even close. The Brewers rank in the Top 10 for strikeout percentage and bottom six for wOBA. In addition, those numbers get worse against righties. Arrieta has himself in the Cy Young conversation thanks to a ridiculous 1.01 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 25.8 K% with a 13-1 record and 120 Ks in 125.0 IP since June 21. He's the king of the second half… there is none higher, sucker MC's should call him… sorry. Run D.M.C. callback there. Old school rap notwithstanding, Arrieta is a must-start tonight.
Andrew McCutchen ($5,750) – Have to love teams in Colorado, especially ones with as many great bats as the Pirates. The best bat, and best play from the Pirates, is none other than McCutchen. You get the righty-lefty matchup and Chris Rusin on the mound. It doesn't get much better than this. On top of that, Cutch's HR/FB% is at 18.5 against lefties and Rusin's is 15.0.
Anthony Rizzo ($8,000) – Gotta like hitters facing a pitcher with a 6.15 ERA. Tyler Cravy is getting back into the starting mix after being the reliever role for a few weeks. Cravy had a decent debut, but his next four starts resulted in 18 IP and 20 runs (17 earned). On the season, Cravy has a terrible 4.3 BB/9, which really creates havoc when his LOB% is only 62.5 percent. The Cubs are a strong play, and Rizzo is one of the best ones.
J.A. Happ ($5,950) – Arenado at home. Cha-ching! Arenado is hitting .291 with a .387 wOBA at home, which includes a solid 16.4 HR/FB%. Interestingly, Arendao's HR/FB% is better on the road, but either way, he's a terrific option most Fantasy days, especially when at home and against a pitcher like J.A. Happ.
River Card (cheap option to make lineup work)
Daniel Murphy ($4,900) – Matt Wisler gets crushed by lefties. He has a .358 AVG, .639 SLG% and .463 wOBA against this season. In addition, 10 of his allowed 14 home runs have come from lefties. He's been awful on the road too with a line close to his lefty split, which when combined, gives us an insane .402/.490/.767 split with .523 wOBA and 9.75 FIP against lefties on the road.
