Philadelphia 76ers, Joel Embiid vs. Washington Wizards
The Bet: Over 27.5 Points (-108)
Joel Embiid is having an MVP start for his 6-1 Sixers. The versatile seven-footer leads the team putting up over 23 points per game while a beast on the boards and defending the paint. Embiid has scored 27 points or more three times this season and continues to be Philly’s go-to guy on offense. On Wednesday night, Embiid is going up against perhaps the best team any NBA scorer would like to be the go-to guy.
While the Wizards have won two in a row after starting the season 5-0, they are still giving up a ton of points. Despite getting the first two victories of their season, Washington still gave up over 115 points per game in the wins. That’s actually an improvement on the Wizards season average of 120.3 points allowed, which ranks them second-worst in the NBA.
Embiid has something to do with that rank as the former third overall pick lit up the Wiz for a season-high 29 points on opening night. The Sixers center dominated in the low post and carved up Washington’s defense for 15 points in the fourth quarter. He really looked like he could torch them anytime he wanted to.
Embiid averaged 25.3 against Washington last year, including a 29-point performance in their last meeting of the 2019-20 season in August. Philly’s superstar carries a career average near 25 points per game against the 76ers.
Philadelphia is a 6.5 point favorite at FanDuel’s Sportsbook, a heavy favorite on the Moneyline, and offer a busty total of 223 points.
Milwaukee Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo vs. Detroit Pistons
The Bet: Over 26.5 Points (-119)
Following a Monday-night near single-handed dismantling of Detroit, why not ride the hot hand. Giannis Antetokounmpo absolutely motored the Pistons for a season-high 43 points in a 125-115 Bucks win earlier this week. The reigning league MVP shot a ridiculous 70 percent from the field while adding seven free throws on nine attempts. The Pistons had no answer for Giannis, who scored at will while putting up 30 in the first half.
Perhaps, the positive for the Pistons is they get another shot at Antetokounmpo with the back-to-back, but it can also be looked at as Giannis gets to feast some more at home.
The Bucks’s superstar has played very well at the Fiserv Forum, putting up 29 points a game there as opposed to 24 on the road. And the Pistons might be one of Giannis’ favorite team to play against recently.
Antetokounmpo lit up Detroit last season as well. In three games, the Greek Freak teed off on the Pistons defense to a tune of 32 points per game in 2019-20. That included a spectacular 35 point performance in a Bucks December win over Detroit. And all this going down against a Pistons team that had big-man Andre Drummond in the middle before he departed for Cleveland.
Detroit has not been an impressive defensive team this year, giving up over 117 points per game, sixth-worst in the league. They are also allowing an NBA-worst 50.3 percent shooting rate from the floor. That’s terrible news against an efficient scorer like Giannis, who’s shooting 52 percent from the field in 2020-21 after a 55 percent field goal rate last season.
There’s no reason to think the Bucks won’t feed Giannis again to go at the short-handed Pistons. Detroit has been able to hang around in games this year despite their 1-6 record, so a blowout and the MVP sitting early isn’t as likely.
Milwaukee is a 12-point home favorite, a ridiculous, valueless -850 on the Moneyline, while the total sits at 225.5 at FanDuel’s Sportsbook.
