The Brooklyn Nets deserve a ton of credit for how they’ve handled this recent West Coast trip without arguably their best player in Kevin Durant. The Nets went 5-0 on their trip and defeated all four California teams and the Phoenix Suns. Outside of the Kings, all four of the opponents they faced during the trip have a winning record, with three of those teams holding a top-four seed in the conference.
When Brooklyn takes the court every night, they know that they’re more than likely to get the opposing team’s best effort. Perhaps that’s what made their performances so impressive in that they could answer the bell in each of those matchups.
The Nets were particularly good against the Los Angeles teams when they faced off against the Lakers and Clippers. Neither game featured the high-scoring affair that many had gotten used to when watching the Nets. In fact, they were able to hold the Lakers to under 100 points which is a feat that they’ve struggled to accomplish for much of this season.
While some may focus on what they were able to achieve in the win column, their efforts defensively might be the real takeaway from what can be characterized as the perfect road swing.
