Dallas Mavericks vs. Houston Rockets News and Notes
Luka Doncic is listed as day-to-day for Dallas after missing Sunday’s game with a quad injury. The Mavericks are, of course, still without the center, Kristaps Porzingis. The former fourth overall pick is back practicing with the team but is not expected to return until late January. As for the Rockets, Chris Clemons (Achilles) is out for the season, reserve guard Mason Jones is ruled out with an ankle injury, and James Harden (ankle) is listed as questionable. The Rockets are expected to have Ben McLemore and Kenyon Martin Jr. back with the team as both players have completed the NBA’s COVID-19 protocols.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Houston Rockets Predictions and Picks
Dallas is on a back-to-back after losing last night on the road in Chicago. Luka Doncic missed the game due to a quad injury, and I’m not sure he’ll have had sufficient time to heal up with another game the following day. The fact that this line swung from Dallas as a 1.5-point favorite to now Houston as a one-point favorite suggests that there’s a decent chance Doncic misses his second consecutive game. This is already a tough stretch for the Mavericks, who have to travel from Chicago to Houston to play their third game in four nights. In fact, this will be Dallas’s fourth game in six nights. That’s a lot to ask of a team, especially if they could be with their star player.
The Rockets leveled their record at 2-2 with back-to-back home wins against the Sacramento Kings. Houston has not had to travel their last two games, and they come into this game on one day’s rest. Keep in mind that the Rockets have played the fewest games of any team in the league because of the COVID-19 outbreak that occurred within the team to start the season. Now, they could have their full complement of players, including those affected by the virus, back with the team. The additional bodies should give them more options against a likely weary Mavericks team.
This is really a situational handicap based on the bad scheduling spot for the Mavericks. My model shows a three-point edge with Houston in this game, and that’s good enough to get me to the window. Lay the short price with the home team in this matchup.
The Pick: Rockets -1
