Indiana Pacers, Myles Turner
The Bet: Under 7.5 Rebounds U (-108)
Myles Turner is expected to play in the Pacers season opener against the Knicks after being cleared from the NBA’s concussion protocol Tuesday.
Turner, however, should see decreased usage when playing with Domantas Sabonis. When the two are on the floor together, Sabonis sees a 22.4% usage rate, compared to Turner’s 14.5% usage rate.
Last season, in 62 games played, Turner averaged 6.6 rebounds per game, reaching eight or more rebounds in 22 games.
He is projected for 5.7 rebounds against the Knicks, who last season played as one of the league’s slowest teams, averaging 98.6 possessions per game and 44.2 opponent rebounds per game. With the lack of usage and a low-total game, Turner should hit the under (-108).
The Pacers are an 8-point favorite on FanDuel Sportsbook in a game with a 212 total.
Houston Rockets, John Wall
The Bet: Over 6.5 Assists O (-128)
John Wall makes his return to the court tonight as a member of the Houston Rockets. Wall last played for the Washington Wizards during the 2018-19 season, playing in 32 games and averaging 34 minutes, 20 points, 3 rebounds and 8 assists.
Wall should be the lead distributor for James Harden, replacing Russell Westbrook in the rotation. Of the 32 games Wall played in 2018, he reached 7 assists or more in 25 of those games.
Last season, the Rocket had 21.6 assists per game and played at one of the league’s fastest pace at 103.7 possessions per game.
Wall is currently projected for 7.9 assists and should reach the over (-128) in a game where the Rockets are favored by 8 points at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder, in a game currently at a 224 total on FanDuel Sportsbook.
Charlotte Hornets, Gordon Hayward
The Bet: Over 16.5 Points O (-110)
Although Hayward is dealing with a fractured pinky finger, he is expected to play in the Hornets season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
A member of the Boston Celtics last season, Hayward played in 52 games, averaging 33 minutes, 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Of those games, he reached the 17-point mark 29 times.
This year, with the Charlotte Hornets, Hayward looks to be a primary piece to the offense. His addition to the rotation should turbocharge the Hornets, who were last in points per game at 102.9, also playing at the slowest pace at 95.8 possessions per game.
Hayward is currently projected for 19.3 points and should reach the over (-110) with much of the offense expected to go through him and Devonte’ Graham.
The Hornets are a 2.5-point road favorite against the Cleveland Cavaliers on FanDuel Sportsbook, in a matchup with a 215 total.
Philadelphia 76ers, Joel Embiid
The Bet: Under 26.5 Points U (-108)
76ers center Joel Embiid looks to have a prime matchup against the Washington Wizards, a team that allowed the second-most points to opponents at 119.5 per game. However, Embiid scored greater than 26 points only 19 times in 51 games played last season.
Most of the 76ers usage should come from Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris, who both have usage rates above 20% and a combined average of 24 points per game in 1,647 minutes played together.
Embiid is currently projected for 23.9 points for tonight’s game. In a game with one of the highest spreads on the slate, there is a risk of a blowout, which would decrease Embiid’s minutes and trend him toward the under (-108).
The 76ers are a 7.5-point home favorite on FanDuel Sportsbook against the Washington Wizards in a game with a 230 total.
