Detroit Pistons vs. Denver Nuggets News and Notes
The scorching Denver Nuggets look to stay fired up and get their sixth straight win when they welcome the Detroit Pistons into town on Tuesday. Denver has played some fantastic basketball during their five-game win streak, even though it was just lowly Orlando they extended against on Sunday.
Former Magic forward Aaron Gordon led the way in his first game against his old team since being dealt at the NBA trade deadline. Gordon had a game-high 24 points leading a group of starters that each scored at least 15 points. Jamal Murray, who is questionable with a knee issue for Tuesday, added 22 had a nice double-double with 20 points and a game-high 12 boards. FanDuel Sportsbook’s MBA MVP odds on favorite had another ridiculous game. Nikola Jokic finished just a rebound shy of yet another triple-double with 17 points, nine rebounds, and an insane 16 assists. Yes, this is a seven-foot center dropping these dimes.
While their most recent win came against probably the worst team in the NBA after they gutted their roster at the deadline, Denver has been no slouch on this stretch. The Nuggets have road victories against the Clippers and Pelicans and beat Philadelphia, who’s led the East most of the year. Thanks to their recent play, the Nuggs have jumped into the four see and are just one game back of the Clip for the third spot in the West.
At 15-35, the Pistons are just running out the clock on yet another disappointing season in Detroit. That being said, they are coming in off a victory and have won three of their past five. Detroit took care of business against the Thunder in Oklahoma City last night for just their sixth road win of the year. Jerami Grant led the way with 21 points as part of seven players to score in double-figures and 11 Pistons to put up at least eight. The 132 points scored in the 24-point victory were the most points Detroit has put up all season. While they’ll look for their first win streak in three weeks, Detroit may be hard-pressed to repeat such an offensive performance on this second night of a back-to-back.
The Pistons have covered five of six road games while Denver has covered five straight on one day rest and four of five overall. In five of six games as an underdog, the Pistons played to the over while the Nuggs have not hit the under in four against teams with a losing record. Detroit has covered in four of five head-to-head meetings while they’ve only gone over once in their past six matchups in Denver.
