Golden State Warriors vs. Brooklyn Nets News and Notes
Kevin Durant faces his former team for the first time since leaving Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals with a torn Achilles. Of course, the Warriors would go on to lose the title to the Raptors, and Durant would leave to Brooklyn in the offseason as a free agent. Now a year and a half later, KD meets his former teammates as Golden State comes to Brooklyn.
This Warriors team is much different than the one Durant left a season and a half ago. Sharpshooter Klay Thompson is out for the year, Steph Curry is coming off a season he played just five games because of a broken hand, while Draymond Green will miss the game with a foot injury.
New faces Andrew Wiggins, Kelly Oubre Jr., and James Wiseman will be starting back at the former Warrior on Tuesday night. Durant has some new faces of his own on his very own new squad.
Of course, the other big name on the mini super team suiting up next to KD is Kyrie Irving. Irving played in 20 games last year in his debut season for the Nets as the injured Durant watched from the bench. Kyrie’s season was cut short because of shoulder surgery, but he was able to look great in a sample size. The former Celtic averaged 27.4 points per game to go along with 6.4 assists. All eyes will be on the Nets’ new dynamic duo for this season opener.
Golden State will try and stay competitive without the other half of their dynamic duo. Thompson will be missed on the scoresheet, but the Warriors are hoping Wiggins can continue to progress. The former NBA Champions are also expecting big things from rookie center Wiseman. The addition of Oubre also helps fill the Klay hole.
For their 75th anniversary season kick-off, the Warriors will have to kick off the 287-day layoff rust.
