Houston Rockets, John Wall
The Bet: Over 6.5 Assists O (-104)
John Wall leads the Houston Rockets this season in assist per game, with 5.5. Although he has only reached the seven-assist threshold two times in the 10 games he has played this season, he continues to be a dominant presence on the Rockets, with a 27.6 usage rate.
Tonight’s matchup looks to be a prime spot for Wall to reach the over (-104) against the Pelicans. This season, they are allowing the second-most assists per game to opponents with 27 assists on average. Expect the Rockets, who play at the sixth-fastest pace in the league, averaging 101.6 possessions per game, to force the Pelicans, who are playing on the second leg of a back-to-back, to play catch up.
Wall currently projects for 8.7 assists against the Pelicans.
The Rockets are a 1-point road underdog on FanDuel Sportsbook against the Pelicans in a game with a 222.5 total.
Detroit Pistons, Blake Griffin
The Bet: Under 14.5 Points U (-116)
Blake Griffin has had an up-and-down season for the Detroit Piston, who appear to be fully committed to rebuilding, posting a 5-14 record after the first month of the season.
Griffin is coming off a spectacular performance against the Los Angeles Lakers, playing 35 minutes and scoring 23 points. He has, however, only reached the 15 points threshold six times this season, playing in 14 games.
With most of the team’s usage going through Jerami Grant and great performances from Wayne Ellington, Griffin’s usage rate has fallen to 18.9%.
Griffin currently projects for 11.8 points against the Warriors. The Warriors, who play at the league’s third-fastest pace at 103.8 possessions per game, will force the Pistons, who rank as the seventh-slowest team in the league at 98.5 possessions per game, to play up-tempo and could possible run away with the game, trending Griffin toward the under(-116).
The Pistons are a 5.5-point road underdog against the Warriors, in a game currently at a 223.5 total on FanDuel Sportsbook.
Sacramento Kings, Tyrese Haliburton
The Bet: Over 5.5 Assists O (+104)
Rookie Tyrese Haliburton has exceeded expectations during the first month of the season, averaging 5.4 assists per game and playing 28 minutes a night on average. He has primarily played off the bench and averaged 11 points, three rebounds in 16 games with the Kings.
He has reached the six-assist mark in eight of his games this season, including a season-high 11 in Friday’s 126-124 win against the Toronto Raptors.
Haliburton currently projects for 6.2 assists against the Miami Heat. The Heat this season are allowing 25.5 assists to opponents per game, the seventh-most in the league. If the Kings, who allow the most points to opponents at 120.6 points per game, can stay competitive on the second leg of a back-to-back, look for Haliburton to reach the over (+104)
The Kings are a 5.5-point road underdog against the Heat on FanDuel Sportsbook, in a game with a 225 total.
Boston Celtics, Jaylen Brown
The Bet: Over 2.5 Assists O (-134)
The Boston Celtics appear to be returning to full-strength, just in time for a rivalry matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers. One permanent fixture in the Celtics’ rotation is Jaylen Brown, who in 17 games this season is averaging 33 minutes, 27 points, five rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, leading the team with a 31.5% usage rate. He has reached the three-assist mark in 13 games this season.
The Celtics also have Jayson Tatum, returning after spending time in the league’s health and safety protocol. Combined with Brown, the two account for 63% of the team’s usage and look to be an essential part of the team’s production.
Brown currently projects for 3.7 assists against the Lakers. The Lakers rank in the bottom-10 in opponent’s assists per game, with 23.9; look for the Celtics to use Brown as a primary playmaker, trending him toward the over (-134).
The Celtics are a 2-point home underdog against the Lakers on FanDuel Sportsbook, in a game with a 228 total.
