Los Angeles Clippers vs. Miami Heat Predictions and Picks
The first place to start with this handicap is obviously the injury report, which lists ten players among both teams. The Clippers players’ status is a bit more definitive as all four have already been ruled out while the six Heat players are all game-time decisions.
I think Jimmy Butler is probably the likeliest to play for Miami. Generally, players in the league’s COVID-19 protocols are not listed as game-time decisions unless they’re really close to returning. If Butler is activated, that will place less of an impetus for Miami to rush players back like Tyler Herro and Goran Dragic if they’re not fully fit. Hence, I think it’s possible we can get some combination of Heat players ruled out for tonight.
Now let’s touch on the Clippers, who don’t have a player outside of George and Leonard averaging more than 12 points a game. This is a very top-heavy team, but I’d still expect the remaining players to bring their lunch box on the defensive end. Defense is all about effort, and Los Angeles will not have a chance in this game if they’re not committed in their defensive assignments.
It’s important to note that the Clippers are 29th in the league in terms of pace, with only 100.2 possessions per game. I think we can expect them to try to slow the tempo of tonight’s game, particularly with their two best players sidelined.
There are several under trends active for tonight’s game, and they line up nicely with my model, which projects the total at 211.19 points.
With the current total at 215.5, I’ll gladly pocket the few extra points of value and play this game under the total.
The Pick: Under 215.5
