Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics News and Notes
The Heat head to Boston on the second leg of a back-to-back, after a 128-124 win against the Washington Wizards Saturday.
Using a condensed rotation, Kelly Olynyk, Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson all saw meaningful minutes, playing more than 32 minutes each. Bam Adebayo started but walked into foul trouble, barely playing in the second quarter and third quarter after picking up two quick fouls in the first.
Goran Dragic and Kelly Olynyk had big games. Dragic, coming off the bench, played 19 minutes, scoring 21 points and Olynyk played 32 minutes, scoring 18 points with six rebounds and five assists.
The Celtics last played Friday, winning 116-107 against the Washington Wizards. Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, Jayson Tatum, Semi Ojeleye, Daniel Theis, and Payton Prichard all played more than 23 minutes, with Brown and Tatum leading in scoring with 27 points and 32 points, respectively.
Keep an eye on the Celtics rotation. Jalen Brown is questionable for today’s matchup after being placed on the health and safety protocol. The Celtics are already without Jayson Tatum, Robert Williams, and Tristan Thompson, sidelined due to COVID-19 protocols.
Look for rookie Payton Prichard to step into a starting role, splitting time with Jeff Teague and Marcus Smart at guard. Daniel Theis should play center minutes in place of Williams and Thompson.
If Brown is unable to play today, Aaron Nesmith would likely replace him in the rotation.
Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics Predictions and Picks
The SportsGrid Betting Model is leaning toward the Heat, giving them a 59% chance to win against a limited Boston Celtics rotation. The model gives a five-star rating to the over, projecting the total at 220.6.
When favored by seven or more points last season, the Heat posted a 23-9 record, covering 53% of the time. When favored on the road, they were 9-10, covering the spread eight times, scoring 110.2 points per game and a 97.6 possessions per game pace.
In five games as a home underdog last season, the Celtics posted a 3-2 record, covering four times. However, as a 7-point underdog, they posted a 0-3 record covering all three matchups.
Although the Heat are playing on the second leg of a back-to-back, look for them to run away with a win against a Boston Celtics team who may have to rely on bench players tonight.
The Pick: Heat +3
