Miami Heat vs. Philadelphia 76ers News and Notes
The Heat and 76ers will hook up for the second leg of their two-game set in Philadelphia. Both teams will continue to be as shorthanded for the rematch as they were on Tuesday night.
In their first game, the Sixers took a wild one in overtime with a 137-134 win. While Philly had Ben Simmons back, they were without starters Tobias Harris and Seth Curry as they continue to be out because of the league’s COVID protocols. Shake Milton and Matisse Thybulle also missed Tuesday’s game on the health and safety list, and with the others, will be out again for the rematch. Joel Embiid stepped up large for Philly, scoring 35 of his 45 in the second half and OT. Embiid added to his big scoring total 16 rebounds, five steals, and four assists to become the first player since 1983-84 to put up that line.
On Miami’s side, they got contributions outside of their superstars, who were also all sidelined. Tyler Herro had a team-high 34 points while Duncan Robinson added 26, and Gabe Vincent had a career-high 24. Like in Game 1, Jimmy Butler, Bam Abedayo, Goran Dragic, and Kendrick Nunn will be on the shelf on Thursday night, continuing to follow the NBA’s safety protocols.
The Heat only had the league minimum of eight players available on Tuesday but may have Meyers Leonard available for Game 2 of this mini Philly set.
Philadelphia has failed to cover in four of their past five, including Game 1 against the Heat. Miami has covered just twice in their past five while hitting the under in four of their past six. Philly has gone over in four of their past five games. The Sixers have only covered once in their past seven against the Heat, dating back to 2018. These teams hit the over in four straight and five of six head-to-head meetings.
