Miami Heat vs. Philadelphia 76ers News and Notes
The Philadelphia 76ers skeleton show continues Tuesday night when they host the Heat. Philly dropped their third straight game Monday against Atlanta with multiple key players out of the lineup either because of COVID protocols or injuries. Starters Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris, and Seth Curry did not play, and while the two latter aren’t expected to play, Simmons may suit up. Despite being severely shorthanded, Joel Embiid got his, scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds while playing just 23 minutes.
The Miami Heat have had their own roster issues as well. Miami could not pony up the league minimum of eight active players for their game against the Celtics on Sunday, resulting in a postponement. The Heat will have several key players out due to NBA health and safety protocols. Starters Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Goran Dragic will not suit up, while many bench players will also not play.
So all of a sudden, the depleted Sixers find a team more exhausted than they are. Despite the recent man-games lost, Philly has remained a top-ten defense giving up under 109 points per game. They are also allowing a league-low 43 percent opposing shooting rate from the field.
Miami is actually second best in the NBA in opponents’ field goal percentage, just a half a percent behind the Sixers. The Heat is also allowing just over a half-point more than Philly per game. Like the 76ers, Miami hasn’t been burning up the bucket finding themselves as the NBA’s eighth-lowest scoring team. Philadelphia is only scoring about three points more per game than the Heat.
Both Miami and the Sixers have failed to cover in three of their past four games. Philly has gone over in three of four games, while the Heat has gone under in four of their past five games. The 76ers have only covered once against the Heat in their past six head-to-head matchups while they played to the over in four of five.
