Milwaukee Bucks vs. New Orleans Pelicans News and Notes
Jrue Holiday will make his first appearance back in New Orleans since the Pelicans and Bucks were involved in a four-team trade about a month before the season began. Holiday was moved to Milwaukee for Eric Bledsoe, the Bucks starter for three seasons, who headed back to the Pels. Holiday, on the other hand, spent seven seasons in New Orleans. The 30-year-old has fit in very well in Milwaukee, third on the team in scoring, putting up 15.5 per game for the NBA’s highest-scoring team. Holiday also leads the team with 1.9 steals and is contributing over five assists per game.
On the other end, Bledsoe is having a decent season but a little less productive than he was with the Bucks. He’s got a great teammate in Zion Williamson, who’s got a share of the team’s scoring lead with Brandon Ingram. The pair are putting up 23.9 a game this season for the Pels. Bledsoe numbers are down across the board from last year, but 13.1 points per game make him the team’s third-best scorer behind Zion and Ingram.
Those two Pelicans led the team to a rare victory in their last game against the lowly Wizards. Brandon and Williamson each put up a team-high 32 points to lead New O to a 124-106 win over Washington. It was just the Pels’ second win in their past ten games. On the downside, Lonzo Ball left the game in the first half with an ankle injury. Many are speculating the Pelicans will hold him out because a trade is imminent, so don’t expect Ball to suit up for this one.
Milwaukee comes in as winners of two straight and six of their past eight. As expected, the Bucks are being led by reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo as per usual. The Greek Freak was just one assist shy of a triple-double in Milwaukee’s 115-108 win over the Raptors on Wednesday. Giannis went off for 24 points, 18 rebounds, and nine assists in the victory. Khris Middleton tied Giannis, putting up a team-high 24 points, while Holiday hit the slot machine special with 7 points, 7 assists, and 7 boards.
Antetokounmpo leads the team and is ninth in the NBA, scoring 26.8 points per game. The 26-year-old is also the team leader with 11 boards a game, which again puts him as the ninth-ranked player in that category. The Freak is also among the league’s top non-centers shooting nearly 55 percent from the field and one of the best passing forwards, putting up 5.6 assists per game.
For what it’s worth, these two teams met for the preseason’s final game, where the Pelicans topped the Bucks 127-113 in New Orleans. Giannis did not play in that game, but Zion did put up a game-high 31 points while Middleton led the Bucks with 29.
The over has been the play in six of the past seven games Milwaukee has played a team with a losing record, while New Orleans has hit it in their past five home games. They’ve also gone above the total in seven of their past eight head-to-head meetings. The Bucks had covered in three-straight against the Pelicans after New Orleans had covered in four straight against Milwaukee. The Pels have covered just once in their past four overall, while Milwaukee has covered their past two after failing to hit the spread in four straight.
