New Orleans Pelicans vs. Brooklyn Nets News and Notes
The Pelicans and Nets have battled some serious injuries lately but are seemingly starting to get healthy, kind of. Brooklyn will have Kevin Durant back on the court for the first time after missing almost two months with a hamstring injury. As Durant returns, Harden goes out. Harden missed two games but returned from a hamstring injury Monday against the Knicks only to reinjure it and will now be out at least ten days. Brooklyn’s Big Three have played only seven games together this season, making their 35 wins that much more impressive. Kyrie Irving has been a big reason for that.
Irving again took over after Harden left the game Monday after just four minutes of court time. Kyrie went off for a game-high 40 points leading the Nets back from a 14-point deficit against city rivals, the Knicks. Brooklyn escaped with a two-point win when Julius Randle missed a pretty good look at a game-tying shot. Jeff Green matched a season-high with 23 points in the win while LaMarcus Aldridge played his third game with his new club putting up eight points, six rebounds, and two blocks for Brooklyn.
As mentioned, New Orleans has had their own injury issues. Brandon Ingram remains out with a foot issue and will miss his fifth-straight game, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker will be out two weeks with an ankle injury. Zion Williamson returned on Tuesday against the Hawks after missing three games with a strained thumb and picked up right where he left off. Zion put up a game-high 34 points to extend his streak of scoring at least 20 to 25 games. Lonzo Ball played in his second game since missing seven with a hip injury and finished one board short of a triple-double. Ball had 12 points, 11 assists, and nine rebounds in the 123-107 Pels loss. Steven Adams also returned after a one-game absence, but starter Josh Hart will likely be out for the season. Hart underwent surgery to repair the torn UCL in his right thumb on Tuesday and will be re-evaluated in three weeks. With the Pelicans out of it and the season over in five weeks, it’s unlikely New Orleans brings him back this year.
The Nets have failed to cover in six games against teams with losing records, while New Orleans has covered just once in their past four. Brooklyn has gone under in six straight following a win, while the Pelicans have gone low in four straight as the road underdog. New Orleans has failed to cover four-straight meetings with the Nets, while the over has come through in 22 of 27 head-to-head meetings.
