New York Knicks vs. Utah Jazz Predictions and Picks
Utah is the hottest team in the NBA right now—winners of eight straight games and, perhaps more importantly, eight straight covers for bettors. Tonight, the Jazz will take on a Knicks team that is almost molded in their shadow in some respects.
New York is ranked at the very bottom with 99 possessions per game, while Utah is ranked 28th with 102 possessions per game. Both teams are also quite similar, giving their prowess on the defensive end. New York is also ranked fourth in defensive efficiency (1.046), right below the Jazz in third place (1.04). I think both factors are quite critical to how this game could play out. Fewer possessions in the game would suggest that New York has a chance to stay close with Utah.
The Knicks have done a good job thus far this season as a road underdog (6-4 ATS), and they’re on a four-game ATS streak on the road when facing a team with a winning percentage above .600.
New York defeated the Jazz at home on January 2nd, and they also have two double-digit wins against the Bucks and the Celtics.
This is a Knicks team that can step up in class, and much of that is down to their commitment on the defensive end. Their head-to-head stats against the Jazz should not be ignored as they’ve covered 25 of their last 31 (80.6%) games in Utah.
This feels like too many points to lay with the Jazz, and I’ll gladly back the visiting Knicks as an 11.5 underdog.
The Pick: Knicks +11.5
