The Orlando Magic are off to a 4-0 start this season, and it’s not like they’ve played a bunch of tomato cans either. Orlando opened the season against the Miami Heat, then won back-to-back games in Washington against the Wizards. Last night’s game against the Thunder was their third contest in four days, and it didn’t seem to bother them as they went on to a 118-107 road victory. Orlando looks committed to taking the next step after two consecutive postseason appearances that saw them bounce out in the first round. They did manage to give the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks quite a scare last year after winning the first game of their series.
While some pundits heap lofty expectations on teams like the Hawks, Wizards, or Bulls, someone still has to knock the Orlando Magic off their playoff perch. Steve Clifford is a good NBA coach who has been around this league a long time. He looks like a worthy contender for the Coach of the Year award, especially if he can guide the Magic to a winning record. Orlando has gone from a team that many had written off to arguably the biggest surprise this season.
