Philadelphia 76ers vs. Atlanta Hawks News and Notes
The 76ers will again be forced to go with a skeleton crew when they hook up with the Hawks in Atlanta Monday night. Philadelphia is coming off a loss to the Nuggets on Saturday, where they dressed the league minimum of eight players. The Sixers were missing four starters, including Seth Curry and Tobias Harris, who were among five players out because of COVID-19 protocols. Curry tested positive while the others sat as a precaution to potential contact. Joel Embiid (back) and Ben Simmons (knee) also sat against Denver. Simmons did not make the trip to Atlanta, dealing with swelling in his knee, while Embiid is expected to play, although listed on the injury report as probable. Harris, along with Shake Milton, will remain out as they continue to quarantine.
While the Hawks will come in much healthier, they have been beaten and battered on the scoresheet as of late. After starting the season with a 3-0 record, Atlanta has lost four straight and five of their past six. The Hawks most recently dropped back-to-back games to the Charlotte Hornets, who came into their miniseries at 3-5.
Trae Young has cooled off dramatically after a fiery start to the year where he was averaging 33 points per game in the Hawks’ first four. Young is coming into this one after combining for 22 points in the two losses to the Hornets. The Hawks point guard still leads the team with almost 25 points per game and 8.6 assists, but there’s been some reported infighting with teammate John Collins. Collins is Atlanta’s second-leading scorer putting up 17.2 per game.
Atlanta will be without one of the team’s best three-point shooters as Bogdan Bogdanovic will likely be out long-term. Bogdanovic has been diagnosed with a right knee bone bruise and avulsion fracture. Trae Young is battling through a wrist injury but is expected to play.
The Sixers have covered in five of their past seven but keep in mind this game will feature a team missing three starters and multiple other players. Atlanta has failed to cover in every game during their four-game losing streak and has hit the under in their past five. Philly has gone over in three straight, but it’s hard to imagine they’ll score freely with such a depleted lineup.
