Phoenix Suns vs. Cleveland Cavaliers News and Notes
The Phoenix Suns look to continue their current win streak while pursuing the NBA’s best record with a stop in Cleveland on Tuesday night.
Phoenix is coming off a surprisingly close game in Oklahoma City on Sunday. The Suns escaped OKC with a 123-120 win over the tanking Thunder after three straight victories over playoff-bound teams. It wasn’t as close as the final score indicates as Theo Maledon hit a late three-pointer for the Thunder with 1.1 seconds left on the clock.
Devin Booker led the way for Phoenix as the team-leading scorer put up a game-high 32 points while Chris Paul captained the ship with an 18-point, 11-assist double-double.
The Suns may have been a little weary with their fifth game in a week. Phoenix allows the seventh-fewest points in the league but allowed OKC and the NBA’s third-worst offense to score 120 points.
They picked up wins in tough games against the playoff-contending Knicks, Jazz, and Clippers before squeaking by the Thunder. Phoenix will get their second shot in three days at flexing against a bad team when they visit the slumping Cavaliers tonight. A win against Cleveland would tie them with Utah with the league’s top mark.
Cleveland is the lowest-scoring team in the league, putting up just 103.9 points per game, and have dropped six straight. The Cavs will try and avoid a fourth consecutive home loss after being dumped by Miami 124-107 on Saturday.
Kevin Love and Collin Sexton led Cleveland with 25 apiece in the loss while Cedi Osman stepped into the starting lineup for the injured Darius Garland. Osman played 38 minutes and filled up the stat sheet with 15 points, 11 assists, and seven rebounds.
Garland remains out Tuesday night with an ankle issue, so Osman should get another start and is worth a look at FanDuel for $5500. Cleveland has four more games this week, so if you’re in the fantasy finals and have a hole to fill, Osman is available in about 80 percent of leagues.
Phoenix has played down to their competition lately, going 0-4 against the spread against teams with a losing record, while Cleveland has played down to everybody. The Cavaliers haven’t covered in six straight and five in a row as an underdog. Cleveland has gone over in five of seven home games while the Suns went high in five of six on the road. The Cavs have covered five of seven against Phoenix in Cleveland, and the over is 5-2 in seven head-to-head meetings.
