Portland Trail Blazers vs. Sacramento Kings News and Notes
The Portland Trail Blazers are starting to play like the team we saw run roughshod all over the NBA bubble. The Blazers have won three in a row for the first time this season, including a dominant win over their opponents for Wednesday night.
Portland dismantled the Kings in Sacramento on Saturday night and now heads back to the scene of the crime tonight. The Blazers built a 17-point halftime lead that ended in a comfortable 125-99 win. CJ McCollum torched the Kings for a game-high 37 while Damian Lillard chipped in with 17 points while adding a team-high six assists.
McCollum is putting up 29 points a night during the win streak, while Lillard has scored a hair above his season average, scoring 26.3 during the three-game stretch. Center Jusuf Nurkic left in the third game of the set, exiting after nine minutes of Monday’s victory over the Raptors. Nurkic is questionable for this rematch with the Kings with a quad issue.
The Kings come in losers of five of their past seven but did beat the Pacers in their last game on Monday night. Sacramento held on for the five-point win in a tightly contested game that was close all night. Harrison Barnes continued his recent strong play with a game-high 30 points while De’Aron Fox contributed 21 and a game-high nine assists. Center Richaun Holmes was a beast on the defensive end with a game-high six blocks to go along with a double-double of 16 points and ten boards.
Sacramento’s ninth-best offense has been powered by balanced scoring this year. The Kings have six players scoring 12-plus points per game and find themselves hanging around the top-ten with their near 47 percent shooting rate.
Portland has also been using their offensive firepower to win games as well. The Blazers are fourth in the league, putting up 117 points per game. Unlike the Kings’ equal scoring share, Portland relies heavily on their two superstars. McCollum is second in the league with 28 points per game, while Lillard sits tenth in the NBA in scoring. The dynamic duo accounts for nearly 47 percent of Portland’s team scoring.
Both teams rely on the run and gun, with defense an afterthought. The Kings rank 28th allowing 121.1 points per game, while the Blazers are only a few slots ahead, giving up 115.6 a night.
Portland has covered in three of four, including their win over the Kings on Saturday, while Sacramento has just one cover in their past six games. The Blazers have gone under in three of four while Sac-town has hit the over in four of their past five contests.
The Blazers have covered in seven of their past ten against the Kings, and the over has been the play in four of their past six head-to-head meetings.
