San Antonio Spurs vs. New Orleans Pelicans Predictions and Picks
New Orleans is 5-10 on the season with just one win in their last nine games, and yet they’re a 2.5 home favorite against a San Antonio team that’s 9-8 overall and 6-3 on the road?
I don’t think the Pelicans should be favored against too many teams in the league, let alone the Spurs. This line is all about the Zion Williamson hype train as the oddsmakers continue to add a tax on this Pelicans team. New Orleans is 0-4 ATS this season as a home favorite and 1-8 ATS in this spot in their last nine games. They’re ranked 23rd in defensive efficiency (1.088) and dead last in allowing 15.9 three-point baskets by their opponents.
When you factor in San Antonio’s success on the road in New Orleans and as a road underdog in their last eight games in this spot, it’s hard to land on the side of the Pelicans. This line opened with New Orleans as a three-point favorite, and the early money is siding with the visiting Spurs. While I agree with the move, I’m also aware that the Spurs will be playing their second game in consecutive nights and their third game in four nights, so their legs could be a bit weary.
As for the Pelicans, they return home from a grueling six-game road trip where they faced the Clippers, Lakers, and the Jazz.
I think this will be a game they’ll feel they have to have, and it would make sense to play this game against the Spurs at a fast tempo. I like the angle that the total is 6-0 to the over following an ATS loss for New Orleans.
That trend is active tonight, and while I lean to the Spurs on the spread, I’ll look to play this game over the total at 224.
The Pick: Over 224
