Stay Away from NBA Futures Markets?
In addition to scheduling concerns during the pandemic era, the uncertainty regarding NBA teams makes playing the futures market a total crapshoot at this time. You’re likely to have a better edge if you instead target yes/no props for teams to either make or miss the playoffs. Right now, there are just too many moving parts to be able to form an opinion with any real conviction.
Nets guard Kyrie Irving is a perfect example because he’s already missed his team’s last three games and is in line to miss his fourth due to personal reasons. It’s not clear if the absence is an injury or COVID-19 related because the Nets really aren’t commenting on it at this time. The current environment in the league is actually creating more value if you choose to fade teams instead.
There is plenty that can change between now and the end of the season. Keep in mind that the second-half season schedule has yet to be released at this time. There are likely some favorites that are still overvalued in the market right now with the expectation that they’ll figure things out as the season unfolds. One thing we know is that there will be no guarantees in this tumultuous season.
